Bottom Line: 4 / 5

Continental’s CrossContact LX20 is designed as an eco-friendly tire for crossover, sport utility vehicles and light-duty pickup trucks. This all-season tire is built to perform well on highway commutes as well as off-road excursions in lighter terrain. Below are just a few features of the Continental CrossContact LX20 that we found make this an exceptional tire:

• EcoPlus Technology enhances fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions.
• EcoPlus Technology’s provides excellent wet braking and long tread life.
• Traction grooves provide an extra gripping surface that improves snow performance.
• Smooth Response Technology designed with continuous ribs that create a smoother surface that reduces road noise and allows for a more comfortable ride.

Continental CrossContact LX20

The CrossContact LX20 features a tread compound that allows it to perform well on dry, wet, snowy, and icy driving conditions. The tire is designed with EcoPlus Technology that uses an all season tread compound engineered with Tg-F polymers and +Sliane additives that we found greatly enhances this tires traction on both wet and dry surfaces.

The symmetric tread pattern further increases traction and provides drivers with the road contact they are looking for in all weather conditions. Wet traction on this tire is especially optimized by its four circumferential grooves. Snow traction is enhanced by Continental’s traction grooves that promote three-dimensional surface contact for added bite in rough weather.

Cornering – Steering

Continental uses its unique Smooth Response Technology that gives the tire a smoother rolling surface, which keeps the tire in continuous contact with the road. Drivers have reported that this feature along with the tires independent tread blocks and notched shoulders provide excellent steering control, sharp handling, and enhanced cornering stability.

Winter Handling

The CrossContact LX20 uses EcoPlus technology, which includes Continental’s traction grooves that have extra biting edges. These extra biting edges allow the tire to perform exceptionally well in wet and wintery driving conditions.

Traction grooves are often referred to as four circumferential grooves because they grip the road from inside the groove, which gives the tire three-dimensional snow traction. These four circumferential grooves also push water away from the tire’s tread, which enhances traction and prevents hydroplaning on wet and slushy surfaces. Some Continental CrossContact LX20 drivers reported that the tires also perform very well on ice. We found that they performed flawlessly in rain and surprisingly did not jerk the vehicle from side to side when driving over standing water.

Ride Comfort – Road Noise

Ride comfort is an area where this tire stands out as well when it comes to controlling road noise and delivering a more comfortable ride. The compound is molded into a symmetric tread design that has notched shoulders, independent tread blocks and a continuous surface that greatly reduces noise and enhances ride comfort by keeping the tire in constant contact with the driving surface. Some drivers reported a slight increase in road noise at highway speeds, which increases with mileage put on the tires.

Tread Life

Continental CrossContact LX20We found that the CrossContact LX20’s all-season tread compound also greatly improves the tire’s tread life. The notched outboard shoulders, independent tread blocks and continuous ribs contribute to extensive tread durability by forming a smoother tire surface to contact patch.

The CrossContact LX20’s internal structure includes twin steel belts strengthened with spirally wrapped polyamide on top of a polyester cord casing, which we found to also contribute to tire strength and prolonged tread structure quality. All sizes of the CrossContact LX20 come with a flanged lower sidewall to help reduce the possibility of curb damage to expensive wheels.

The Continental LX20 carries a six-year or 70,000 mile tread life warranty.
