Cooper CS4 Touring Tire Review & Rating
- Dry and wet traction
- Ride comfort
- Excellent value for the cost
- Road noise as tire wears
Designed for all types of coupes, sedans, minivans and crossovers, the Cooper CS4 Touring is built to provide dependable all-season traction, a smooth and comfortable ride along with attractive styling. It’s one of Cooper’s biggest selling tires and also one of the most popular touring all-season tires in its class.
Cooper’s R-Tech construction provides increased traction on dry road surfaces, as well as improved handling when the roads become wet. A combination of a silica tread compound and unique aqua-channel tread grooves deliver quick evacuation of water in rainy conditions.
Cornering – Steering
The CS4 Touring is built for city/highway touring capacities, and it does its job very well. Steering is responsive and provides good overall feel. Cornering is average due to the harder tread compound. It’s not going to give you high-performance sports car like lateral grip, but that’s not what this model is designed for. We believe it’s more than sufficient for normal usage and some more sporty moments mixed in as well.
We found traction in light to moderate amounts of snow to be quite good. The tread design gives it better than average grip for the most part. One area that could be improved on would be braking on icy roads. Of course this is a problem for nearly any all-season tire and you’ll want to use caution when driving in these types of conditions.
Ride Comfort – Handling
As you might expect, ride comfort on the CS 4 is very smooth and comfortable. Road noise is minimal and the tire simply provides a good feel. The 5-rib tread pattern and wider ribs allow for dissipation of heat which improves highway ride and handling, as well as extending tread life.
One of the areas that Cooper wanted to give this tire was an extended tread life, which is one reason why you’ll notice it carries a 780 UTQG rating. Hard sidewalls for helping the tire to track well and get a flat pattern should help it to attain 60,000 or more miles. The tread compound is created in such a way that it helps to dissipate heat, a huge drain on tire life. So the tread covers all of most drivers needs; from tread life, all-season traction and enhanced ride comfort.
An 80,000 mile tread warranty is included with the CS4. This indicates the overall design is built to provide quality and a longer treadlife. In addition, workmanship and materials are covered for 5-years. There’s also a 45-day test drive guarantee with this tire.
In all, The CS4 Touring is an excellent tire for a majority of vehicles and driving situations. It has a solid warranty and 100 years of experience behind it for added confidence in your travels.
