Cooper Discoverer M+S Review & Rating
- Deep snow and ice traction
- Steering control
- Ride comfort
- Little noise on dry pavement
The Discoverer M+S from Cooper is designed for SUV and light truck drivers who are looking for excellent traction on snow and ice, in addition to dry and wet pavement. Utilizing the latest in tire technology, including Cooper’s unique D Squared D2 Sipe Technology, the M+S is built to handle the roughest of winter road and weather conditions.
We wanted to see for ourselves if this tire was capable of everything we were told it was, so we tested them in our usual criteria.
We expected the dry traction of the Cooper M+S to meet and exceed our needs but were not sure how it would fare in wet winter conditions. We ended up being very happy with how this set of tires handled snow and ice. The construction of these tires includes D Squared D2 Sipe Technology, which gives the tire ultimate contact with the road due to its deeper and more dense zigzag sipes around the tread. The traction of these tires helps them handle incredibly well on snow and ice, as well as other winter conditions.
Cornering – Steering
Cornering and steering was a pleasant surprise on these tires. They handle much like a set of all-season models. The tread design provides a smooth connection with the road when cornering and steering, which gives you more control and confidence when driving on any road surface.
The Cooper Discoverer M+S is designed with “snow groove” design technology, which gives it more grip and more bite in the snow and on the ice. We were very happy with the way this set of tires handled deep snow. The snow groove design technology allows for ultimate traction without any tread element stiffness reduction whatsoever.
The way this set of tires takes on the snow and ice you’ll have no problem getting to where you need to go, and if you do find the need for added traction, the M+S is pinned for studs as well.
Ride Comfort – Road Noise
Riding on these tires is much more comfortable than many tires in this class. The ride is smooth and road noise is minimal. Sure, you may find a bit of noise on dry pavement, but it’s not excessive or to the point of being irritating. We really enjoyed the ride on the M+S and the way they handled.
All the reviews we read from other drivers about the Cooper Discoverer M+S before we tried them said they were extremely happy with the tread life from the tires, and we have to agree. The construction and design of the tires help to improve tread life.
Cooper provides a limited tread warranty on the Discoverer M+S. Tire uniformity is guaranteed for the first 2/32 inch of wear. Materials and workmanship are warranted for life and include free replacement during the first 25% of wear. Cooper follows that up with a prorated amount down to the last 2/32 inch of useable tread left on the tire.
After spending time with this Cooper winter tire, we have to say it is one of the better models in the area of performance and comfort. They plow through the harshest conditions, while providing a good level of overall comfort.
