Cooper Weather-Master S/T 2 Review & Rating
- Grip on snow and ice
- Steering response
- Low road noise
- Dry handling
Because they are designed to be used in wintry conditions, the Weather-Master ST 2 features an intricate tread pattern and a tri-polymer tread compound that boosts their traction. Deep lateral and notched circumferential grooves are there to get rid of water, slush and snow in poor conditions.
We found that they provided good grip in poor conditions, while also delivering excellent performance on dry cold road surfaces.
They are winter specific tires but their traction and grip should be noted in all weather conditions. It’s worth noting that studs can easily be added to this model for drivers who need them.
Cornering – Steering
We tested the tires extensively for cornering on snow covered roads and we found that they understeer a lot less than we were expecting especially with quick maneuvers. They performed really well in our book and the steering felt natural, like you were in complete control, which cannot be said for many tires when driving on ice and snow.
The category for which the Cooper Weather-Master S/T 2 tires were basically made for. While you can drive with them on in dry weather they are specifically designed to be used in the winter months especially if there is heavy snow or lots of ice.
We mentioned above about the traction, however, the S/T 2 also comes with “D Squared” Sipe Technology. Essentially this boosts winter handling by using a dense zig-zag sipe pattern to enhance its performance in snowy conditions. Even with several inches of snow on the ground and ice in places the tires worked really well. They provide good grip, you feel in control of the vehicle and even on ice they are sure-footed.
Ride Comfort – Road Noise
While there is noise to be expected on snow conditions it was fairly minimal and wasn’t too noticeable. Driving on less chaotic conditions with some dry road and there is barely any noise coming from the tires at all. The Computer-Optimized Random Pitch Sequence tread design that we talked about above also helps to improve the comfort of the tires and in all the winter specific tires we have looked at, these are one of the most quiet and comfortable on the market.
Due to the fact that Cooper Weather-Master S/T 2 tires are designed to be used in severe winter conditions, we were not expecting much from the tread life to be honest. But what we found was that the tread life on this model is actually very good.
The Cooper Weather-Master S/T 2 has a limited tread warranty that includes materials and workmanship being covered for 5 years.
The Weather-Master S/T 2 is one of the harder working winter tires on the market today. They provide a level of safety and security that is hard to beat.
