The Eagle F1 Asymmetric All Season (AS) tire is one of Goodyear’s flagship products, built to deliver high performance on the road for both sports cars and powerful sedans. When good traction is expected on wet, dry and snowy conditions, you can count on the all-season zones of this tire to deliver.
With the numerous tire brands that are in the market these days, you’ll probably want to know how the F1 Asymmetric All Season matches up.
How good is the tire’s dry, wet and winter traction? Does the tire’s steering response and cornering grip deliver high performance handling? What about its durability, ride and noise comfort levels? In this review, we’ll look at all of these aspects to help you make an informed purchasing decision.
Goodyear uses a specialized tread compound and an asymmetrical tread design to enhance traction of the Eagle F1 Asymmetric All-Season tire in dry conditions, and I have to say that it performs with the best in the ultra-high performance all-season class. In addition, brake performance is as equally impressive
For UHP tires, gripping wet roads, evacuating water from under the tread and being able to stop in a safe distance is where many of them have a bit of difficulty. That’s simply not the case with the Goodyear F1 All Season. Its wider circumferential grooves around the tread reduce the risk of hydroplaning by channeling water away from the tire, while the biting teeth on the tread further enhance tire grip in wet conditions.
Further, you’ll find that wet braking is excellent. This is just one area where this tire demonstrates its strength on the road.
Cornering – Steering
Cornering grip on this tire is excellent, and backed by many other driver comments and reviews. Goodyear has added their unique Active CornerGrip and Racing Compound Technology into these tires that give them impressive high speed cornering and grip. Even on wet pavement these tires deliver confident grip. Furthermore, Tredlock MicroGrooves lock together for added grip during high speed turns.
Goodyear incorporates orbital grooves with along with solid center ribs on their Eagle F1 Asymmetric AS tires to ensure quicker steering response and stability, which is quite evident when you’re driving on this tire.
In addition, the tire’s Dry Handling Zone has powerful outer shoulder tread blocks further enhances steering response and cornering stability.
Traction on snow and ice is a big problem for most every all-season tire, especially tires in this category. I will say though, the Eagle F1 Asymmetric includes a variety of Goodyear technologies that help it deliver pretty good traction in lighter amounts of snow. That said, dealing with ice covered streets or a foot of fresh snow is not going to be something this tire will handle very well. A good winter tire would be the solution if you have to drive in rough winter weather conditions.
Overall, for light to moderate winter weather you should be able to get around provided you take it a little easier.
Ride Comfort – Road Noise
Ride comfort on the Asymmetric All Season is about average when compared to other tires in its class. That’s pretty much to be expected with a tire that delivers excellent cornering grip. The stiffer tread means that something else has to give. In this instance the trade-off is a firmer ride quality. It’s not overly harsh by any means, but you do feel it when driving over smaller impacts or potholes.
Goodyear utilizes an optimized tread pitch sequence to reduce road noise on the F1 Asymmetric AS, however, we still noticed a little extra pattern noise on some road surfaces than on similar models. Again, like ride comfort, this is not something that would keep us away from this tire. The level of performance and handling easily offsets our minor complaints.
Tread Life – Warranty
Treadlife for this tire is about average when compared to other similar tires in this class. Goodyear uses a twin steel belt that is reinforced with spirally wrapped polymer cord cap piles for added durability, as well as a built-in rim protector to aid in preventing damage from curbs. It also comes with a 6-year or 45,000 mile treadlife warranty.
Based on customer reviews and ratings, it seems that others agree with us that the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric All Season rates highly among ultra-high performance tires. The level of traction on dry/wet surfaces, and the fantastic cornering grip you get on this tire is well worth the investment.
Their specialized outer tread zones assist with dry handling while the inner treads evacuate water for better wet traction. With Goodyear’s Active CornerGrip and Racing Compound Technology, the sidewalls on the tire compress evenly for enhanced traction while cornering.
In addition, the continuous center ribs incorporated on the tires will give you quicker steering response and feedback. Simply stated, they give you outstanding control without compromising on performance.
