Hankook Ventus S1 Noble 2 Review & Rating
- Superior dry and wet grip
- Excellent cornering performance
- Tread life
- Road noise on uneven pavement
A true high performance all-season tire, the Hankook Ventus S1 noble 2 is made for sport coupes and sedans and offers superior traction, handling, steering and tread wear. This is what they are sold as and we wanted to find out if the claims are true.
While high performance tires generally have an edge to a certain degree they do not always match up to what they purport to offer. In regards to our usual set of testing criteria we decided to see how they did and if they could really be called ‘high performance’.
The Hankook S1 noble 2 comes with 4 circumferential grooves along with Hankook’s Aqua Hydro Block technology which helps get rid of water and therefore increase wet traction. We found this to work really well and on wet surfaces the tires actually performed brilliantly when called upon to add that little extra bit of grip.
On dry surfaces they were fantastic too and we have no real complaints with the traction on these tires. The high-performance hybrid silica tread compound aides their ability to and they also have lower rolling resistance for better fuel efficiency.
Cornering – Steering
We found that steering on the Hankook Ventus S1 noble 2 tires to be extremely responsive and pretty much as you would expect from a tire in this class. This is undoubtedly helped by the center rib and response time and generally steering ability is right on the money.
Cornering is great with these tires too and even aggressive driving doesn’t seem to produce any negative effect on their overall performance. Certainly very solid and effective.
As a means to improving winter handling and driving in snow and ice in general, Hanook introduced carving edge grooves and 3D sipes to the Ventus S1 noble 2 tires to improve their performance. As they are relatively new tires on the market it is difficult to gauge just how good they are in winter over a period of time, however initial results are encouraging.
While they are not a true winter and snow tire they do offer decent grip when driving on less than favorable conditions. Perhaps don’t rely completely on them in the winter months, however they should see you through some below par road surfaces.
Ride Comfort – Road Noise
In terms of road noise and driving comfort this tire is in the upper half of its class. We didn’t feel that there was any excessive noise associated with the tires nor did we think that any part of the driving experience on these tires was uncomfortable. They are pretty much center of the road for this category and this is no bad thing.
Getting a long tread life from a high performance tire can be difficult although these tires do provide a decent level of longevity. The 3D vibration analysis technology reduces the effect that tread wear can have on the tires (as well as improving braking) and for the most part people seem to get a reasonable amount of service from them.
Expect to get quite a few miles out of them and while they may just fall short of the stated warranty they will provide good performance throughout their lifetime.
The Hankook Ventus S1 noble 2 tires have a warranty of 50 000 miles. They also feature a uniformity warranty of one year as well as 5 years of workmanship and materials which is a great deal considering their price and nature.
