Kumho Ecsta PA31 Tire Review & Rating Rating

Product Overview

  • Excellent all-season traction
  • Minimal noise and a comfortable ride
  • ESCOT technology delivers superior handling and performance
  • Tire is too new to know yet
Bottom Line: 4 / 5

The Kumho Ecsta PA31 was made available in September 2013, and promises to bring both excellent performance and outstanding mileage in a higher performance all-season tire. Made with the mid-level sports sedan and coupe in mind, the PA31 aims to provide great performance on both wet and dry surfaces.

Kumho incorporates an advanced tread technology to ensure that the PA31 is able to maintain high performance and tread wear all-season long. This is done in conjunction with the tire’s heavy sipe density, which allows it to expel water that would otherwise hamper performance. Through the utilization of cross grooves, handling is greatly improved. Snow and water are simply pushed through the grooves, but never cause a loss of traction.

Cornering – Steering

The directional tread helps to improve steering while the ESCOT technology handles response. Through this technology, the treadlife is also increased due to cord tension technology. Even on light snow, performance is kept to the highest of standards throughout the entire ride. Cornering grip on both dry and wet pavement is very good on this tire. It provides confidence whether driving around town or on the highway.

Winter Handling

The Kumho Ecsta PA31 is still only a few months old and only now beginning to be tested by other drivers in the snow and on ice. While being one of the most anticipated tires of the year, it doesn’t disappoint in this area. We found this model to handle light to deep snow as good as you’ll find in an all-season tire. Ice traction is also impressive, although do not expect it to grip the road like a dedicated winter tire.

Ride Comfort – Road Noise

Noise is not going to be a big concern with Ecsta PA31. A variable pitch is the key to noise reduction, and it does its job very well. It virtually eliminates all of the annoying pavement vibrations and noise that so often causes problems in many other tires. We would go as far to say that this may be one of Kumho’s quietest tires in their lineup.

Kumho Ecsta PA31With a 500 UTQG rating, you can expect to get upwards of 50,000 miles or more from the PA31. This is an area that is still to be determined since the tire was only recently released, but we will keep this review updated on treadlife as time goes by. That said, with its advanced tread compound and directional tread pattern, this model should deliver longer wear.

Kumho backs the Ecsta PA31 with a 6-year, 60,000 mile warranty on the tread of the tire. A workmanship warranty of 6 years is provided for the material of the tire. Sizes of 15-18 inches is more than accommodating for most vehicles in this class and will be the perfect fit for vehicles like the Honda Civic, Ford Fusion, BMW 128i and many more.

All in all we really like this new Kumho tire and the new technology they’ve put into the tread. Performance is excellent among others in its class, and road noise is outstanding for this new tire.
